Tiensvold Farms

Tiensvold Farms Mark Tiensvold’s great-grandfather had thirteen kids, eight of whom were boys. Each of the boys inherited a 1/2-section and a tractor. Mark purchased his farm from his grandparents and it is the only farm from that legacy left in the family. It has since grown to 3,000 acres...all certified organic since 1992.

Mark and his wife, Ila, started small, growing vegetables they sold to local stores. They expanded into small grains, legumes, hay, and seed crops...many of which are sold through organic seed catalogs distributed nationwide. But they realized they needed biodiversity on the farm to continually enrich the soil and protect their income sources. So, in 1993 they added the majestic bison to their mix of crops.

Tiensvold FarmsNaturally hearty, buffalo have thrived on the North American continent for thousands of years, and continue to do so at Tiensvold Farms. These noble creatures are in great demand for their lean, delicious meat. And Mark raises some of the best...certified organic, grassfed, and consistently tender and delicious.

Tiensvold Farms Located on the western edge of Nebraska’s sandhills and in the southern shadows of the Black Hills of South Dakota, Mark, Ila, and their two girls love their ranch life on Nebraska’s open prairies. Of being an organic producer, Mark says, “Buffalo and organic farming is our way of life. Organic is the only thing that’s been able to keep our family on the farm.”
