Beguin OrganicsThis 2000-acre ranch in the Sand Hills of Nebraska has been a family affair since Bob Beguin’s grandfather homesteaded it upon arriving from Switzerland. Bob and his wife, Dorothy, bought out other family members and have been running the operation since 1973 where they raised their four children, initially without the benefit of electricity or phone service! Their ranch is full of interesting surprises, such as indian arrow heads and Civil War mementos, which appear from the soil if you have a good eye to spot them. Of their son who was killed by a drunk driver in 1989, Dorothy says, “ We were very grateful we had given him a youth of hunting, trapping, fishing, and hard labor.”

Bob and Dorothy Beguin Always environmentally conscious, it was not a difficult step for Bob and Dorothy to become certified organic in 1996. They run a cow/calf operation and raise their own feed. “We may never be rich, but it’s been a wonderful place to raise our children, and a way to help keep alive the work ethic that built this country.” Family members assist on the farm regularly and their help is always welcomed. Bob and Dorothy want to enable their grandchildren to have the opportunities that their children had and hope to be able to keep the farm in the family for generations to come.
